On the latest episode of the Last Word on Spurs podcast, Ricky Sacks, Lee McQueen, Chris Cowlin and Richard Cracknell provided immediate reaction to the Lilywhites’ 2-1 win against Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday night.

One topic of conversation on the recent episode, which was titled: ‘Bale Wins It‘, was Spurs’ defence.

Despite sitting second in the Premier League, Jose Mourinho’s side has managed just one clean sheet in the top flight so far this season, which perhaps seems to be a continuation of last season, where the Lilywhites could only register eight clean sheets across the season.

How well can you remember Spurs' season so far? 1. Who is Spurs' top scorer in all competitions so far this season?

McQueen certainly seems concerned about Spurs’ defensive options, as he raised during the podcast:

“We just haven’t had, even before the Jose days, [a settled back-four]. I think again, it could be our Achilles heel. [We’ve been] heavily linked with [Milan] Skriniar.

“It’s only eight weeks until the transfer window opens, so maybe there [will be] something there. We have got Joe Rodon, who hasn’t kicked a ball for us in earnest for us yet. So if we don’t get that sorted, it could well be our Achilles heel.”

TIF Thoughts on McQueen’s concerns over Spurs’ defence…

Although Spurs have struggled to keep clean sheets this season, they currently have the best goal difference in the Premier League, ahead of Monday’s fixtures, so perhaps this isn’t the biggest worry for Mourinho’s side.

Of course, if they can grind out wins similar to their 1-0 triumph at Turf Moor recently, then we are sure that Mourinho would be delighted, but the three points are the most important thing and considering their impressive start, perhaps there is no reason why the Lilywhites can’t challenge for the league this season, even if McQueen feels that their defence is a potential weakness.
