Tottenham Hotspur journalist Alasdair Gold has been sharing some details on the injury Toby Alderweireld suffered during the north London club’s recent 2-0 win over Manchester City at the weekend.

This comes after Gold recently uploaded a video onto his YouTube channel where he reflected on the win over Pep Guardiola’s side.

How well can you remember Spurs' season so far? 1. Who is Spurs' top scorer in all competitions so far this season?

On the topic of Alderweireld and his injury, Gold had this to say on the matter.

He said: “He was brilliant [against City], which made it all the more frustrating that around 81, 82 minutes, he just went down, and he knew immediately that he had a problem. I asked [Jose] Mourinho about it afterwards as well said it’s his adductor muscle, which is kind of in the groin area.

“He said it was bad. He said we’re still waiting to see exactly how bad; they’ll do scans and everything. What I would say is that Mourinho, maybe [it’s] the slight pessimist in him, [he] always goes for the worst possible scenario and then maybe he’s pleasantly surprised when it isn’t.

“I saw Alderweireld tweeted something like fingers crossed, it’s not bad, we’ll find out. Mourinho did say that [Heung-min] Son was a bad one and then he was only out for about a week, two weeks maybe. But different kind of injury so let’s see what happens, but I do think it’s a massive shame because I just think that Alderweireld [and Eric] Dier partnership was starting to become something.”

Alderweireld started the game against City but his injury forced him off in the latter stages of the match where he was replaced by Joe Rodon.

The Belgian’s performance in the game earned him a solid match rating of 7.44/10, making him Spurs’ third-highest rated player on the day (per WhoScored).

TIF Thoughts on Alasdair Gold’s comments on Alderweireld’s injury…

Given how impressive Alderweireld was against City before being forced off, it’s no surprise Gold thinks it’s a “massive shame” that the defender had to go off and could now face a spell out of action.

In our view, while it is a shame that Alderweireld picked up this injury, Spurs also have Davinson Sanchez, Joe Rodon and Eric Dier currently available as natural centre-backs, meaning they should have enough depth in their squad to fill in for Alderweireld while he recovers.
