Speaking recently on a video posted on his YouTube channel, Alasdair Gold discussed all things Tottenham Hotspur, including the recent performances of midfielder, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.
Following his £14.94 million move from Southampton to Spurs back in August, Hojbjerg has highly impressed for Jose Mourinho’s side, with the defensive midfielder making an average of three tackles, 0.9 interceptions and two clearances, as well as 82.4 passes, per game over his eight Premier League appearances, culminating in a WhoScored match rating of 6.98 – ranking him as Tottenham’s sixth-best performer in the league thus far.
The £22.5 million-rated 25-year-old impressed once again during the club’s 1-0 win over West Bromwich Albion last weekend, in which he made a remarkable seven tackles and earned a WhoScored match rating of 7.23 – ranking him as Tottenham’s joint fourth-best player in the match.
And, it would appear that the Denmark international’s performances have not gone unnoticed by Gold, who, speaking on a recent video posted on his YouTube channel, took the time to praise Hojbjerg for his performance against West Brom, as well as the midfielder’s overall level of performance since joining the club.
He said: “I feel Hojbjerg, he’s just exactly what Tottenham needed, he’s so good. Again, [against West Brom], he was everywhere. He is a Duracell bunny, he doesn’t stop. I’d say, if I’m going to be particularly harsh on [Harry] Winks and [Moussa] Sissoko, he probably takes the best elements of what they do, with Winks’ passing [and] pirouettes, Sissoko’s energy and interceptions and dominance of the midfield – and probably has less of the weaknesses that they have. And obviously, he’s got all of that combined in one.
“He was superb. Honestly, I could wax lyrical about Hojbjerg for ages. I asked Sissoko the other day what it was like playing alongside him, and he just spoke about his energy and just how good he is and what he does and the way he plays and the way he operates alongside him. He’s a leader, I think he’s a general that Tottenham really needed.”

From Gold’s comments, it is abundantly clear that the journalist is a massive fan of Hojbjerg’s, and that he couldn’t be more impressed with how the midfielder has performed since moving to Spurs back in August.
And, we have to say, considering Spurs are currently sitting pretty in second place in the Premier League, just one point off of Leicester City who top the table, it would indeed seem as if the addition of Hojbjerg to Mourinho’s midfield has had a very positive impact on the side.
