Speaking on a recent video posted on his YouTube channel, Alasdair Gold discussed reports linking Inter Milan midfielder Christian Eriksen with a return to Tottenham Hotspur.

Since moving to Inter from Spurs in what was a £24.3 million deal back in January, Eriksen has gone on to feature 33 times for I Nerazzurri, chipping in with four goals and providing three assists along the way.

However, the £45 million-rated 28-year-old has struggled to hold down a place in Antonio Conte’s starting XI, as, last season, the midfielder featured in more Serie A games from the bench, nine, than he did by starting, eight.

In addition to this, over the course of these 17 league appearances, the Denmark international averaged a disappointing WhoScored match rating of just 6.60 – ranking him as the club’s tenth-worst performer in Serie A.

Things have not exactly improved for Eriksen this season, either, with the midfielder starting just three of Inter’s seven league games, with an additional two appearances coming from the bench, over which he has averaged a WhoScored match rating of 6.36.

According to a report by Football Insider, Inter were keen to loan Eriksen out over the summer transfer window and, despite no move materialising for the midfielder, that ‘intermediaries’ have now offered Tottenham, as well as other ‘leading’ Premier League sides, the chance to sign the 28-year-old in the January window.

Eriksen’s potential return to Spurs was one topic of conversation on a recent video Gold posted on YouTube, however, the journalist appeared to be of the belief that a move back to north London would not be good for the club or the player.

He said: “I don’t personally know if Eriksen wants to come back. I know that Inter didn’t offer him to Spurs in the summer. Obviously, [this] season hasn’t gone as he’s wanted. We’ve seen the quotes from him saying, ‘This wasn’t my dream’.

“Personally – this is just my opinion – I don’t think, this quickly, especially, Spurs or Eriksen should rekindle their relationship.

“I think for Eriksen, it’s a case of coming back with his tail between his legs to a club where he really wasn’t playing well for the last year – possibly 18 months – before he left. I don’t think it does him any favours confidence-wise [by] coming back.

“I think, with Spurs, I don’t think you’d be getting back the Eriksen of prime [Mauricio Pochettino], I think you’d be getting the Eriksen back who is very low on confidence. I don’t think that’s the player Spurs need right now.”

TIF Thoughts on Gold’s comments regarding Eriksen’s potential return to Tottenham…

From Gold’s comments, it is clear that the journalist does not believe a reunion between Spurs and Eriksen would be good for either Tottenham or the player, as the midfielder is not currently performing as he was under former Spurs boss Pochettino, under whom he scored 58 goals and provided 75 assists over 255 appearances, while returning to a club the midfielder stated openly he wanted to leave could potentially damage his confidence further.

Though it does seem as if his future is up in the air after his recent comments.

We have to say, considering the performances of Eriksen so far at Inter, as well as Tottenham’s current impressive standing in the Premier League table, it would seem that the club are doing just fine without the 28-year-old, and, as such, a move for the player would appear to be rather unnecessary.
