Some Newcastle United fans have flocked to a tweet that was recently posted by Toon-focused Twitter account @NUFC360 which relayed The Athletic’s claim that ‘the Saudis remain as determined as ever to buy Newcastle.’
This claim comes after Newcastle United released a statement via their official website on Thursday confirming that the club has issued arbitration proceedings against the Premier League over the English top-flight’s ‘conduct relating to the proposed takeover’ by the consortium consisting of Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, PCP Capital Partners and the Reuben brothers.
As explained by The Athletic, current Toon owner Mike Ashley agreed on a £305m deal to sell the North East club to this consortium in April but the Premier League never approved the deal, resulting in the consortium pulling out of the takeover in late July. However, now The Athletic issued this claim on the Saudis which suggests that they are still interested in taking over the North East club.
So, how have these Newcastle United fans reacted to @NUFC360’s tweet relaying The Athletic’s claim?
