Mark Douglas and Andrew Musgrove discussed a variety of subjects with regards to Newcastle United on a recent episode of the Everything is Black and White podcast including the recent defeat at Southampton and the latest on the potential takeover of the club.

Steve Bruce’s side travelled to the south coast on Friday night and was beaten by Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side 2-0, courtesy of goals from Che Adams and Stuart Armstrong (as per BBC Sport). Having dissected the club’s third Premier League defeat of the season, the pair discussed the latest with regards to the takeover.

Who will the Toon play in the next round of the Carabao Cup after they beat Newport County on penalties?

Responding to a question from a listener which asked whether or not Douglas believes a takeover will happen, and if so, when? Here is what he had to say:

“I think the longer and longer it goes on, probably the less and less faith I have. I think it’s got to happen by the end of the season.

“I think there’ll be another flurry of publicity around it around December, maybe just before the January transfer window, because I think they will try and revive it.

“I think they know, I think the consortium know, that they need to keep PIF on board and if they’re going to do that, then they need to do it sooner rather than later because they’re not going to sit around for a year or two years.”

TIF Thoughts on Mark Douglas’ remarks regarding the takeover…

It’s clear from what the Chronicle journalist had to say, he feels the takeover could still be alive and expects further publicity around the subject to crop up either at the end of this year or at the start of the next.

However, in our view, the Newcastle faithful probably shouldn’t get carried away by what he or anybody else has had to say because there has been no clear indication a deal that would see Mike Ashley sell the Magpies is anywhere near close to being concluded.
