Speaking on a recent episode of the Here We Go podcast, Fabrizio Romano revealed that Liverpool were interested in Juventus winger, Dejan Kulusevski, when the 20-year-old was still at Atalanta.

First up in this Steven Gerrard quiz, how old is the former Liverpool man?

Atalanta had originally loaned the £40.5 million-rated 20-year-old to Parma at the start of the 2019/20 campaign, however, after returning to La Dea on January 1, Juventus purchased the winger on January 2, before sending him back on loan to Parma on January 3.

And, over his 39 appearances for Parma last term, the Sweden international scored 10 goals and provided nine assists, while this season, Kulusevski has scored two goals and provided one assist over his seven appearances for Juventus.

The winger was one topic of conversation on a recent episode of the Here We Go podcast, in which Romano revealed that Liverpool were interested in signing Kulusevski prior to his move to Turin.

He said: “Before the [Atalanta] match, during the meeting between the two boards, Liverpool told Atalanta they were scouting a top young [player] from Atalanta. [It was] Dejan Kulusevski, the new star of Juventus. They were scouting him one [or] two years ago when he was in the academy of Atalanta.

“They were scouting him, but obviously, we know Juventus signed him for [around] €40 million, so it was a fantastic deal. But, this was impossible for Liverpool [to pay] this kind of money for a young player [at that time]. But they told [the] Atalanta board, ‘We were scouting this guy.'”

TIF Thoughts on Fabrizio Romano’s comments regarding Dejan Kulusevski…

From Romano’s comments, it would appear that the journalist is of the belief that Liverpool were indeed interested in Kulusevski, during his time at the Atalanta academy.

And, considering the 20-year-old had scored 17 goals in 26 appearances for the Atalanta Bergamo U17 side, as well as scoring 17 goals and providing 26 assists over 55 appearances for the Atalanta Primavera team, it is not difficult to see why Liverpool were interested in the winger.
