Liverpool journalist Caoimhe O’Neill has been sharing some insight into on-loan Reds winger Harvey Elliott and his latest performance away from the Merseyside club.

This comes after O’Neill recently made an appearance on The Athletic’s Liverpool-themed podcast The Red Agenda where she spoke about a number of different topics concerning the club.

First up in this Steven Gerrard quiz, how old is the former Liverpool man?

On the subject of Elliott, who is currently on a season-long loan deal at Championship side Blackburn Rovers and recently provided an assist in their 3-1 league victory over QPR, O’Neill had this to say on the winger’s latest appearance for Blackburn.

She said: “It was cold [at Blackburn], wasn’t it, but it was a real honour to watch him and I think Liverpool fans should be very excited.

“I mean, we’ve been excited for a while, as soon as he arrived from Fulham, where he’d been the youngest ever player there at 15. He’s a very exciting talent and I think there’s a lot to come from him, and I think the thing I was most impressed with was how he sort of just manages the game.

“He was setting the tone for Blackburn – and I think this was the one thing that struck me – every pass, it almost forces his teammates to do something, like he’s almost telling them with the pass where to be and what to do next and he’s pointing a lot and shouting and he’s got his voice on the pitch.”

Liverpool signed the 17-year-old back in the 2019 summer transfer window from Fulham for an undisclosed fee. Before moving to Blackburn, Elliott had made 13 appearances for Liverpool’s U23 side, where he managed to score three goals and provide four assists.

Additionally, the winger also managed to make nine appearances for the Reds’ senior side but only provided one assist, while he is yet to score a first-team goal for Liverpool.

Since joining Blackburn, Elliott has scored one goal and provided three assists in the six Championship games he’s played in, with his third assist coming in the recent win over QPR (per Transfermarkt).

The teenager’s performances in those six appearances have earned him a solid season rating of 7.28/10 (per WhoScored).

TIF Thoughts on Caoimhe O’Neill’s comments on Elliott…

Taking into account what O’Neill had to say about Elliott and what he has been doing on the pitch for Blackburn since he arrived, and the impact he’s had there in terms of his goal contributions, it certainly feels like he has settled into life at the Championship club and is getting some useful experience under his belt.

With O’Neill’s glowing assessment of the winger, it seems that she is certain that he will have a bright future at Liverpool when he returns to the club when his current loan deal ends.

In our view, Elliott has shown that he is capable of performing to a good standard in the Championship and if he can keep it up for the rest of the campaign, he may have a good chance of getting some regular football in Liverpool’s senior side next season.
