Speaking on a recent episode of the Here We Go podcast, Fabrizio Romano discussed the current situation of Liverpool midfielder Fabinho, touching on the 27-year-old’s contract with the club, as well as revealing the interest the midfielder generated last summer.

Since moving to Liverpool from AS Monaco in what was a £40.5 million deal back in 2018, Fabinho has gone on to play 90 times for the Reds, chipping in with three goals and providing seven assists along the way.

First up in this Steven Gerrard quiz, how old is the former Liverpool man?

This season, following the injury sustained by Virgil van Dijk, the £54 million-rated midfielder had been filling in for the Dutchman in the centre of defence, helping Liverpool to victories against the likes of Ajax and Sheffield United, before he too picked up an injury in their clash with FC Midtjylland last week.

When discussing the Brazilian on the Here We Go podcast, Romano said: “Talks are going to start for Fabinho to extend his contract with Liverpool. It is the same situation [as] Van Dijk, they have the same contract, so two years [remaining] with Liverpool.

“Fabinho wants to extend his contract with Liverpool. He [gave] an interview explaining he is so happy with Liverpool, but he’s also so happy for the future of Liverpool; [he has been] talking with [Jurgen] Klopp about what’s going to happen in the future of the club.

“So, he wants to extend his contract, and next year, I’m convinced he’s going to talk with Liverpool to extend his contract. His agents are waiting for a call from Liverpool. The situation is so calm because he had a bid, last summer, from a top club in Spain, and he decided to stay at Liverpool.

“So, he’s convinced that his future is at Liverpool and next year they were going to start to talk [about a new] four or five-year contract with Liverpool.”

TIF Thoughts on Fabrizio Romano’s comments regarding Fabinho…

From Romano’s comments, it is clear that the journalist is of the belief that Liverpool will be opening contract talks with Fabinho in the near future, and that the club are relatively relaxed about the current contractual situation of the midfielder, as according to Romano, he turned down the opportunity to join a top Spanish club last summer.

As such, if Romano is to be believed, it would appear that Liverpool fans will continue to see Fabinho pulling on the red of Liverpool for the foreseeable future.
