Chris Holt joined Joe Crann, Alex Miller and host Liam Hoden on a recent edition of The Star Owls podcast following the recent sacking of former Sheffield Wednesday boss Garry Monk

Despite the south Yorkshire-based club having picked up four points from their last two Championship fixtures, Dejphon Chansiri, the club’s owner, took the decision to part company with the 41-year-old.

The Owls had their 12-point deduction for breaching the EFL’s spending rules halved to six, but they’ve only managed to win just three of their opening 11 games of the season. Taking that into account, it could be argued that the Sheffield Wednesday hierarchy perhaps didn’t see enough to suggest there has been a sufficient improvement in the side to improve on the disappointing 16th-place finish at the end of the 2019/20 campaign.

To kick off our latest quiz on this past weekend's EFL action, which team earned a 3-0 victory over Championship leaders Reading at the weekend?

When discussing who could be the next boss at Hillsborough, a name that cropped up was that of Nigel Pearson. Here is what Holt had to say regarding the former Leicester City man.

“I don’t know about Pearson. I did find it interesting that he kind of popped up. Whenever managers are ready to get back in the game, then they’ll pop up on TV or they will be interviewed, – we’ve seen [Mauricio] Pochettino was on Monday Night Football last week and Nigel Pearson popped up with a wide-ranging interview in The Guardian and I think The Athletic as well and a couple of others – and that kind of indicates he is ready to come back to work.

“So maybe this is it, maybe it is Sheffield Wednesday, who knows?”

TIF Thoughts on Chris Holt’s comments regarding Nigel Pearson…

Pearson’s last managerial role was at Watford where he replaced Quique Sanchez Flores, with the 57-year-old joining the Hornets in December 2019 before being sacked with just two games remaining in the Premier League season with the club situated three points clear of the drop zone (as per BBC Sport).

Pearson guided Leicester City to the Premier League after a ten-year absence from the top flight back in 2014, proving he has a good pedigree at Championship level, so in our view, if the Owls were considering a move for him, he seems a sensible choice.
