Scott McDermott and Jonny McFarlane discussed all of the latest Glasgow Rangers news on the most recent edition of the Record Rangers podcast and the journalists spent some time talking about Alfredo Morelos during the show.

Morelos had been linked with a move away from Ibrox to Ligue 1 side Lille during the summer, however, he currently remains a Rangers player, with reports claiming that the Glasgow-based club rejected a bid worth more than £16m for the Colombian striker during the summer, as the Gers are believed to value the 24-year-old at £20m.

How well do you remember Rangers' 2020/21 season so far? We'll start you off with an easy one... Rangers beat Aberdeen 1-0 in the opening gameweek of the Premiership, but which player scored the only goal of the game?

It may be understandable why Rangers value the Colombia international so highly, given that no player has scored more goals for the Glasgow-based side in all competitions than Morelos in any of the last three seasons, however, during this recent edition of the Record Rangers podcast, McFarlane shared some concern over the player’s current form and the possibility of his transfer valuation dropping.

He said: “I suppose the concern will be, for someone like Ross Wilson who’ll be following this all very closely, is that they’ve turned down a £16.5m bid and truly, at the moment, Alfredo Morelos doesn’t look like a £16.5m player – that’s the worry.”

TIF Thoughts on what McFarlane had to say about Morelos’ value…

Given that no Rangers player has scored more goals than him in any of the last three seasons, it may be fair to say that the £13.5m-rated Colombia international has set the bar quite high for himself since joining Rangers in the summer of 2017.

It is difficult to say whether or not Morelos’ performances at Ibrox have justified the £20m price tag that the Gers are said to have placed on him, however, if Lille did table a bid of over £16m for him in the summer, as was reported, it may be a bit premature to become too concerned that the player’s value is dropping below that too much, given that only one player has scored more goals than him for the Gers this term and it may be fair to say that it’s still early days in the 2020/21 campaign.

With former Rangers boss Alex McLeish recently sharing some confidence that the attacker is “looking a bit more lively” at present, perhaps McFarlane won’t have to wait much longer to see Morelos produce performances that put his concerns about the player’s value dropping to rest.
