David Wren, Stewart Weir and Colin Armstrong discussed all of the latest Rangers news on the most recent edition of the Gersnet podcast and the panel spent some time talking about the possibility of the Glasgow-based club making a move for Jack Wilshere following his recent departure from West Ham United during the show.

Wilshere left West Ham earlier this month, with the east London club reportedly paying off 85% of the remainder of the 28-year-old’s salary in order to release him from his contract nine months early.

How well do you remember Rangers' 2020/21 season so far? We'll start you off with an easy one... Rangers beat Aberdeen 1-0 in the opening gameweek of the Premiership, but which player scored the only goal of the game?

The midfielder has been linked with a move to Ibrox following his departure from West Ham. It has been claimed that Wilshere ‘would be open’ to joining the Gers should they make a move for him, while Barcelona and Spain legend Xavi has also shared that he thinks a move to Rangers could be good for the Englishman.

Weir shared his thoughts on this potential transfer during the most recent edition of the Gersnet podcast and here is what he had to say about that potential move: “I think this may be one of these deals where, if Rangers were to invest in Jack Wilshere, it would be a case of almost pay-as-you-play, because of his track record in terms of injuries.

“One or two of my friends are fans of Bournemouth, and when he was down there on loan and he was fit and healthy for a long period of time, they were really impressed by him – I mean, really impressed by him. They got to see the type of player that Arsenal fans had always raved about and maybe then didn’t see because of various injuries and ailments.

“Even though Rangers could pick him up as a free agent, it would still be a hell of an investment in terms of what he’s probably looking to make out of it.

“I still think it’s one of these where – yeah, Rangers might be in the mix if he’s looking to play football but then again, there are a number of other clubs – anybody in the top-flight in England, if they were interested in Jack Wilshere, I think he would look at that and like that move before he might consider Rangers.

“[He’s] a hugely talented player who is still relatively young, who still might do somebody a turn or a shift if he can keep his fitness but that would still be the question mark that I would have against Rangers making any move for him, because the last thing you could do is have a marquee signing that then collapses like a cheap tent.”

TIF Thoughts on Weir’s Rangers claim on Jack Wilshere…

Judging by what Weir had to say about this potential move, it’s clear that he thinks Wilshere could be a good signing for the Gers, however, he does have concerns about the player’s ability to stay fit, which may be understandable when you consider that Wilshere has spent plenty of time on the sidelines due to injury throughout his career.

As it has been reported that Wilshere would be open to this transfer should the Gers make a move, it will be interesting to see if any progress happens with this potential transfer in the near future or if it becomes apparent that the midfielder’s future actually lies elsewhere.
