Colin Armstrong, Ross Bennett and Dougie Kinnear appeared on the latest edition of the Gersnet podcast where they discussed all of the latest Rangers news and they spent some time talking about the possibility of the 2020/21 season being cut short, in a similar fashion to how the 2019/20 campaign ended prematurely, during the show.

This comes after the SPFL recently sent a questionnaire to its 42 member clubs in order to get their views on how a potential premature end to the 2020/21 campaign should be handled.

How well do you remember Rangers' 2020/21 season so far? We'll start you off with an easy one... Rangers beat Aberdeen 1-0 in the opening gameweek of the Premiership, but which player scored the only goal of the game?

Last season, Scottish football was suspended in March due to the current viral outbreak and the season was called off two months later when playing the campaign to a finish was deemed ‘unfeasible.’

As per The Herald, in the questionnaire that the SPFL’s member clubs recently received, they were asked to determine how many games must be played in order for a season ‘to be considered valid’ and they were asked whether or not the SPFL board should be given the power to ‘declare final placings in a division’ if the season is considered valid by the time a premature end would be deemed necessary and if they should have the power to ‘void a league’ if the season is not considered valid by that time.

After Armstrong brought up this topic of conversation on the latest edition of the Gersnet podcast, Kinnear shared that he doesn’t trust the SPFL to handle this scenario correctly, saying: “Can we trust them? I wouldn’t trust the SPFL board to organise my kid’s fourth birthday party.

“I can’t believe that some of the things that they’re talking about now, as we’re 12 games into the campaign, weren’t discussed and decided before the campaign kicked off and what that drives is inconsistency. You had a different approach to the scenarios at Aberdeen, Celtic and St. Mirren.

“Do I want the SPFL board to have any greater power to make decisions? Absolutely not, because I would worry that they would be largely inconsistent with other countries across the rest of the world.

“Could you imagine the SPFL make the decision to forfeit the league early and Rangers are still competing in this season’s Europa League?”

TIF Thoughts on what Kinnear had to say about the SPFL…

Rangers were critical of how the SPFL handled the end of the 2019/20 season, with the club’s managing director Stewart Robertson comparing Scottish football’s governing body to a dictatorship, as per The Athletic

With that in mind, it may not come as a big surprise that Kinnear, as a Rangers fan, has some concerns over how they would handle the issue of ending the season early again this term.

It will be interesting to see how this process progresses from here and what conclusion the SPFL’s member clubs ultimately come to with regard to how a premature end to the 2020/21 campaign should be handled.
