Pundit Paul John Dykes has recently made a claim about Ryan Christie and his future at Parkhead.

Dykes was hosting the latest episode of the ‘A Celtic State of Mind’ podcast and he spoke about multiple issues involving the Bhoys. One player that he focused on was Christie and he gave his opinion about the midfielder’s future at Celtic Park. He believes that the player and the club haven’t been able to agree terms for a new contract.

Christie was linked with a move to Burnley last month. The report claimed that Sean Dyche’s men were in the running to sign Christie when he was at Inverness Caledonian Thistle and they have continued to monitor his progress (as per the Daily Record).

Dykes claims that Celtic and Christie are yet to agree terms for a new contract and because of that, the midfielder could leave the club for free in the future as his current contract at Parkhead expires in the summer of 2022.

He said: “What a player he’s been ever since his reintroduction to the Celtic side, but unfortunately, there’s a situation at the moment where the club and the player can’t agree on a deal. So that may mean that Ryan Christie eventually leaves Celtic on a free transfer.”

TIF Thoughts…

It has been reported that discussions are ongoing about the possibility of Christie signing a contract extension at Parkhead. Back in 2019, the Scotsman had confirmed that he had held a ‘few chats’ about penning a new contract.

Since talks seem to be going on, it shows that Celtic want Christie to extend his deal beyond the summer of 2022. He has been the club’s second-best performer in the league this season by having scored two goals and by picking up four assists (as per WhoScored).

That shows how important the 25-year-old is for Celtic and losing him won’t be a good thing for the Bhoys. And if they do lose him, they might want to earn a good amount from his potential sale. So it is understandable why Celtic would want to offer Christie a new deal as soon as possible.
