Glasgow Times journalist Colin Watt has recently made a claim about Motherwell midfielder Allan Campbell.

Watt was a guest on the latest episode of the A Celtic State of Mind podcast and the panel talked about multiple issues involving the Bhoys.

They talked about potential transfers for Celtic and one player that they focused on was Motherwell’s Campbell. Watt believes that Campbell is a player that Celtic could develop and he has a really good future ahead of him.

Which player played the highest number of minutes in all competitions for Celtic in the 2019/20 season?

Hibernian and Aberdeen have been linked with a move for the Motherwell midfielder, who is currently 22.

BBC Sport has recently reported that Motherwell are now in talks to hand him a new contract as his current deal expires in the summer of 2021.

Watt revealed that Celtic’s head of football operations, Nick Hammond, was recently at Fir Park and he believes that some even refer to Campbell as a future Scott Brown replacement.

Watt said: “There [are] other players probably out there that Celtic are watching. I know, for example, that Nicky Hammond was at Fir Park at the weekend.

“It’s a surprise to me actually to see that one of the best players in that Motherwell side, Allan Campbell, another young player, is now being linked with Hibs and Aberdeen.

“They’re talking that the transfer fee’s around £200,000. This is a player [that] I think Celtic can really develop and sell on down the line for maybe £8/£10/£12 million.

“He’s got a really good future ahead of him. Some could say he’s a replacement for Scott Brown in the future.”

TIF Thoughts…

Campbell has made eight Premiership appearances for Motherwell this season and has also scored two goals for the club.

As a result, he has picked up a rating of 6.91 and he has been the club’s second-best player in the league campaign when not considering David Turnbull, who has already joined Celtic. This may suggest why clubs want him.

Celtic’s Olivier Ntcham has been linked with a move away from the club recently and Scott Brown isn’t getting any younger with every passing day, too. Of course, signing a potential replacement for Brown for just £200,000 seems like a no-brainer, if Watts’ assessment is anything to go by.

So, Celtic might need new midfielders soon and seemingly Campbell could be an exciting prospect to take a look at.
