Celtic pundit Paul John Dykes has recently criticised Shane Duffy and Scott Brown for their recent performances.

Dykes was hosting the latest episode of the ‘A Celtic State of Mind’ podcast and the panel discussed multiple issues involving the Bhoys after their loss to AC Milan in the group stages of the UEFA Europa League. Dykes aired some criticism for Duffy and Brown because of their performances in Celtic’s recent games.

Duffy had started against Milan and he also started in the club’s loss to Rangers in the Old Firm derby. Brown, on the other hand, had also featured in both the games but he was taken off in the second half against the Rossoneri.

Dykes aired some criticism for both the players and he believes that both of them are doing the basics wrong.

He said: “Two players tonight and on Saturday – Brown and Duffy, two guys that you think you can hang your hopes on. Two captains – one captain at the back, one in midfield – two leaders and they’re doing the basics wrong.

“The thing with that sucker-punch goal – basic defending. That is an international player. Basic defending. The boy’s behind him. The boy [is] goalside of him. It is not good enough.”

Which of the following clubs has Shane Duffy never played for?

TIF Thoughts…

Against Milan, Duffy picked up a rating of only 6.14 and only six players had picked up lesser ratings than him. Brown picked up a rating of 6.48 – a much better rating than Duffy (as per Whoscored).

In the Old Firm derby, Duffy had a rating of 6.44 and Brown was the highest-rated player for the Bhoys, as he picked up a rating of 7.48 (as per Whoscored).

So while Duffy has been disappointing in the last two games, Brown has had much better performances and some criticism for the Scotsman isn’t quite justified.
