LFC Daytrippers host Gav Doyle has been discussing the performance of Trent Alexander-Arnold during Liverpool’s UEFA Champions League group game at Ajax on a recent edition of the podcast.

Jurgen Klopp’s side came away from the Dutch capital with maximum points after Nicolas Tagliafico’s own goal put them in front and Erik ten Hag’s side were unable to strike back (as per BBC Sport). The England full-back started the game for the Premier League champions and according to WhoScored, his display earned him a rating of 6.74/10.

First up in this Steven Gerrard quiz, how old is the former Liverpool man?

Doyle it seems was less than impressed by what he saw from the 22-year-old, here is what he had to say on the show:

“I have a feeling Trent [Alexander-Arnold] is miles off of form for whatever reason. I don’t know whether there is a fitness issue [or if he has] just played an awful lot of football, I don’t know what it is. It’s the hesitant Trent.”

Are you concerned by Trent Alexander-Arnold's recent form?

TIF Thoughts on Gav Doyle’s comments regarding Trent Alexander-Arnold’s performance versus Ajax…

Judging by the player’s performance rating from the aforementioned fixture, it could be argued that whilst it wasn’t his best performance in a Liverpool shirt, it was by no means a disaster. Throughout the course of the 2019/20 campaign, in the Premier League, the 22-year-old averaged a rating of 7.2/10 and so perhaps it could be argued that in this instance, he may be a victim of his own very high standards.

This coming weekend, the Merseyside club take on Sheffield United and following that, this coming Tuesday, they will face FC Midtjylland, offering the £99m-rated Alexander-Arnold and any others who may not have performed to their maximum on Wednesday the opportunity to put that right.
