Celtic pundit Paul John Dykes has recently hailed Mohamed Elyounoussi for his performance against Lille.

Dykes was hosting the latest episode of the ‘A Celtic State of Mind’ podcast and the panel discussed multiple issues involving the Bhoys following their 2-2 draw against Lille in the group stage of the UEFA Europa League. Dykes was talking about the performances of multiple Celtic players and one player that he spoke about was Mohamed Elyounoussi. Dykes feels that the Norwegian came up with his best performance in a Celtic jersey on Thursday.

Starting with an easy one - which club was McGregor loaned out to in the 2013-14 season?

Elyounoussi had scored both of Celtic’s goals against the French side. His first goal came in the 28th minute and the second goal came in the 32nd minute. Mehmet Zeki Celik made it 2-1 in the second half and Jonathan Ikone made it 2-2 in the 75th minute (as per Whoscored).

Dykes believes that 26-year-old Elyounoussi showed exactly why the Hoops re-signed him on loan in the summer.

Did Elyounoussi come up with the best performance of his Celtic career against Lille?

He said: “I mean, Elyounoussi, for me, it’s the best performance we’ve seen – not just this season, but in a Celtic jersey for him. He could’ve had a hat-trick. He had a chance with a header in the first half but in the second half, it all just lined up for him, you’re screaming for him just to strike it; he probably takes a touch too many. But he showed [last night] just why we were so keen to bring him in for a second season on loan.”

TIF Thoughts on Dykes’ comments regarding Elyounoussi’s performance against Lille…

Elyounoussi, who is currently valued at £8.55m, picked up a highly impressive rating of 9.33 in the game on Thursday and he was the best player for Celtic on the pitch. In fact, he was the highest-rated player in the whole game (as per Whoscored).

It was his best performance in a Celtic shirt this season and it was his second brace of the current campaign too. So the Norwegian certainly deserves a lot of credit for his performance against Les Dogues on Thursday.
