During a recent edition of The West Ham Way podcast, @ExWHUemployee has been discussing the club’s recent signing of Vladimir Coufal from Slavia Prague.

The Irons paid a reported £5.4m in order to bring the right-back to east London during the recent transfer window (as per BBC Sport). Following their capture of the 28-year-old, boss David Moyes described him as “the type of player we want – hungry, ambitious and determined”.

Who did West Ham United face in their opening fixture of the 2020/21 Premier League season?

Recently, according to the podcaster, it was claimed by the self-titled ‘Secret Agent’ who has emerged following a recent YouTube appearance with Spencer Owen that the signing of Coufal was funded personally by David Gold. Here is what @ExWHUemployee had to say on the matter:

“He also said that David Gold personally funded the signing of Coufal, now I can tell you categorically he didn’t, because he didn’t even know who the player was on the day that he was signing.

“Unless he is an amazing actor at 83/84 [years of age] and he’s playing the game, he wouldn’t have put money in for a right-back he didn’t even know of.

“David Gold sold his FA Cup the other day, I told you the story, because he is in need of money – why is he then going to pump back £5m roughly into signing a right-back if he then intends to sell the club?”

Do you think Gold had any personal involvement in the signing of Coufal?

TIF Thoughts…

It’s clear that the podcaster feels as though the ‘Secret Agent’s’ comments regarding this particular transfer are inaccurate and contradict what he has previously said regarding the interest in the club.

Aside from Coufal, the Hammers also managed to bring in Tomas Soucek on a permanent deal and Ossama Ashley (as per Goal). Despite the uncertainty there appears to be behind the scenes at the London Stadium, David Moyes’ side have enjoyed a solid start to the Premier League season having won two of their opening four fixtures (via premierleague.com).
