In-the-know podcaster @ExWHUemployee has recently made a claim regarding West Ham United’s transfer interest in Swansea City’s Joe Rodon.

In September, Jacob Steinberg claimed that David Moyes’ outfit ‘had a look’ at the Welsh defender, however, it was likely he would be ‘very expensive’.

Then, on Monday, it was reported that Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham Hotspur were attempting to secure the arrival of the young centre-back (via Sky Sports).

It was stated that Spurs were in discussions over a fee which was somewhere between £7m and £18m.

With the domestic transfer window open until 5pm on 16th October, there is around a week left for any side to strike up a deal to sign Rodon from the Swans.

In the latest episode of The West Ham Way Podcast, @ExWHUemployee discussed the Hammers’ interest in signing Rodon.

Who did West Ham United face in their opening fixture of the 2020/21 Premier League season?

He said: “Rodon is the centre-back from Swansea, a Welsh international who Tottenham were trying to sign on deadline day.

“We were interested in him, the club thought that he would be worth around £30m. I had it on good authority that he’d be available for about £12-15m.

“It looks like Tottenham offered less than that, and Swansea are kind of holding out for £18m.

“And the message I got from David Sullivan when I did email him about this player was that he’ll be good in a year. So, I think there’s interest in him.”

TIF Thoughts…

As can be seen in what @ExWHUemployee had to say, he seems to believe that the Irons do have an interest in the defender and that the Swans are “holding out” for £18m for him.

Would Joe Rodon be a good signing for West Ham?

No, he's not that good

With two years left on his current contract with his Welsh club, the defender has a market value of just £1.8m according to Transfermarkt.

However, after the defender has picked up a stellar 7.46/10 average rating over his first four league appearances this season (per WhoScored), it is clear to see why Swansea value him far higher than his market value.

With around a week left until the closure of the domestic transfer window, it will be interesting to see if the Hammers do make a move to sign the Welshman.
