Speaking recently on The Transfer Window podcast, Duncan Castles revealed that Gareth Bale has informed Jose Mourinho that Swansea City defender Joe Rodon would be an ‘excellent signing’ for Tottenham Hotspur.

During a summer transfer window in which Spurs added many players to their ranks – including the likes of Sergio Reguilon, Matt Doherty, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Joe Hart on a permanent basis, as well as Gareth Bale and Carlos Vinicius on loan deals – the club were also reported to be keen on Inter defender Milan Skriniar.

However, as the international transfer deadline came and went, no deal for Skriniar was completed, meaning that Mourinho had not added a central defender to his side – something that he was open to doing in the most recent window.

Although, with the domestic-only transfer window remaining open until Friday, the possibility remains that Tottenham could still purchase a centre-back, with the club being heavily linked with Swansea defender Rodon.

Speaking on a recent episode of The Transfer Window podcast, Castles revealed that Bale has been advising his new manager on the potential and promise of the Welsh international.

He said: “My understanding is that Mourinho has now talked to people he trusts on transfers about Rodon to get a sense of whether he would be a good fit to the team for what he’s looking for in defence, and also talked to Rodon’s Wales teammate, Gareth Bale, and been told by Bale that Rodon would be an excellent signing, that his technical quality and his mental qualities are such that Bale would see him playing for any team in the world. That has served to give Mourinho a lot of faith that this would be a good signing for his team.

“The expectation is it’s going to go to the wire, because Swansea City are asking [for] about £18 million for the 22-year-old; Daniel Levy has offered considerably less. It wouldn’t be a Daniel Levy transfer window if he didn’t take a deal to the final stages trying to get the best value for him and his club in the process.”

TIF Thoughts on Castles’ Spurs transfer news on Joe Rodon…

From Castles’ comments, the journalist is clearly of the belief that Bale has indeed been pushing for Mourinho to sign Rodon, with the Real Madrid loanee claiming that he feels the defender has the ability to play for any team in the world.

This is high praise indeed from a man who spent the last seven years at Madrid, and if Bale is correct in his assessment of Rodon, it would certainly bode well for the club if they do go on to land the £1.8 million-rated defender.
