In a recent video for Football.london, Alasdair Gold, Oliver Harbord and Art de Roche have been discussing the recently closed transfer window and the business done by Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea and Arsenal respectively.

One topic of conversation during the video was who the journalists believed had made the best signing during the recent transfer window.

Despite de Roche covering Spurs’ north London rivals Arsenal, he suggested that in signing Gareth Bale on loan, it is the Lilywhites who made the best signing of the summer transfer window, claiming that he will have a bigger impact initially than Chelsea signing Kai Havertz.

How well can you remember the last few weeks of Spurs action? 1. Which played scored a hattrick against Maccabi Haifa?

Here’s what the journalist had to say about Bale during the video:

“I just feel that even though it’s a loan, Gareth Bale coming back is just something you can’t ignore.

“Even though he didn’t come back fit straight away, I do feel that the impact that he’s going to have, in terms of making Tottenham a club that’s properly respected again, I feel that he’s probably going to have the bigger impact straight away than Kai Havertz.”

TIF Thoughts…

Havertz has made a solid start to life in the Premier League with Chelsea; having averaged a 7.01 rating across his four appearances in the top flight thus far (per WhoScored).

The German international also notched a hat-trick in the Blues’ 6-0 win against Barnsley in the Carabao Cup but it appears that de Roche feels that once Bale is back fit, with the Welsh international expected to make his return against West Ham on Sunday, he will have a bigger impact than the 21-year-old Chelsea man.

Who was the better signing?

It will be interesting to see if Bale can replicate his form from his last season with the Lilywhites, when he hit 21 goals in the Premier League, and whether he will be able to outperform Havertz this season, although we must remember when comparing the two that the German is still very young and that this is his first season in England.
