Speaking recently on the Here We Go podcast, Fabrizio Romano revealed that Tottenham Hotspur inquired with Inter about the possibility of re-signing Christian Eriksen this summer, and could well make a move for the player in the future.

After joining Spurs from Ajax in what was a £12.74 million deal back in 2013, Eriksen went on to feature 305 times for the club, scoring 69 goals and providing 89 assists along the way.

However, last summer, the £54 million-rated 28-year-old confirmed that he would like to leave the north London club in order to ‘try something new’.

Although no move materialised for the Denmark international over the summer transfer window, his wish was eventually granted in January, with Inter paying £24.3 million to bring the player to the San Siro.

However, the attacking midfielder has not exactly set the world alight during his time in Italy thus far. Only eight of his 17 league appearances last season came as starts, with Eriksen averaging a slightly disappointing WhoScored match rating of 6.6/10 over these fixtures – ranking him as the club’s 21st-best player in Serie A last term.

But despite his apparent struggles in Serie A, it would appear that Tottenham were keen on bringing Eriksen back to north London in the summer, and could still be interested in the midfielder going forward, as Romano revealed on a recent episode of the Here We Go podcast.

He said: “Tottenham fans will get crazy because there was a chance to see Christian Eriksen back [at] Tottenham this summer.

“[In] July, it was the start of July, when Inter and Tottenham started to talk about the situation [of Tanguy] Ndombele [and] Milan Skriniar. It was really complicated [from] day one – but, during the first discussion, someone from Tottenham asked if there was the possibility to get Christian Eriksen back on loan.

“Inter immediately said, ‘no, we won’t sell a player on loan after signing him for €20 million [around] five months ago,’ so it was really complicated. But, Tottenham have asked for him, so pay attention [to] the future, I would say, because if Eriksen will not be [an] important player for Antonio Conte, pay attention to Tottenham, because they are still thinking [about] him.”

TIF Thoughts…

From Romano’s comments, it is clear that the journalist is of the belief that Spurs were indeed interested in re-signing Eriksen during the summer transfer window, and could well be holding their interest going forward.

So, while the Dane remains an Inter player for now, if Romano is to be believed, we could well see Spurs make a move for him at some point in the future, which is likely to be very exciting news indeed for any fans of the club dismayed by his eventual departure.
