On the latest episode of The View from The Lane podcast for the Athletic, Jack Pitt-Brooke, James Maw and Charlie Eccleshare have been discussing the latest goings-on at Tottenham Hotspur. The trio focused on Spurs’ transfer business in the recent summer window, as well as the Lilywhites’ impressive 6-1 win against Manchester United last weekend.

One topic of discussion on the recent episode, which was titled: ‘6-1 Reaction & Deadline Day Discussion‘, was Manchester United defender Luke Shaw, and the tackle that saw him yellow-carded in the game against Spurs on Sunday. During Sky Sports’ coverage of the game, Gary Neville predicted that the left-back would be dismissed for his challenge on Lucas Moura, as he cynically scythed down the former PSG man with seemingly no attempt to play the ball (per Mirror Sport).

How well can you remember the last week of Spurs action? 1. Who scored Spurs' first goal in the win against KF Shkendija?

Here’s what Pitt-Brooke had to say about the challenge during the podcast:

“The Luke Shaw thing was absolutely disgraceful. That should obviously be a red card and a three-game ban. It was really disappointing that the referee didn’t see it that way. You could tell that some of the Spurs players were not at all impressed that it was only a yellow card simply because you have to come down hard on that sort of thing.”

TIF Thoughts…

The Athletic journalist clearly believes that the Englishman should have been dismissed for his challenge on Moura and should be facing a three-game ban.

Should Luke Shaw have been sent off?

Yes

No

No

He also seems disappointed that referee Anthony Taylor didn’t send the former Southampton man off, but considering the home side were being humiliated and already down to 10 men, perhaps he was a little sympathetic to their overall situation, although, in our view, that shouldn’t get in the way of the fact that it was a horrific challenge from the defender and he probably should have been sent off.
