Tottenham Hotspur journalist Alasdair Gold has been sharing his thoughts on the north London club’s chances of challenging for the Premier League title this season.

This comes after Gold recently made an appearance on a Football.london Periscope video with Lee Wilmot talking about a range of topics concerning the club.

During the video, Gold had this to say on whether or not Jose Mourinho’s side could challenge for the Premier League title this season.

He said: “I think Tottenham have got the squad to do that now [challenge for the title]. I genuinely think they do. [Signing] a centre-back would have been lovely. It would have been the cherry on top of the icing on the cake, but I still think the squad is strong enough.”

Throughout the recent summer transfer window, Spurs spent a total of £59.76 million on bringing in players such as Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Matt Doherty and Sergio Reguilon on permanent deals as well as a loan deal for Carlos Vinicius that cost the club £2.7 million.

So far in the 2020/21 Premier League season, Spurs currently sit in sixth place in the league table after winning two, drawing one and losing one of their four played league games.

Spurs’ latest Premier League match saw them thrash Mourinho’s former club Manchester United 6-1 at Old Trafford thanks to goals from Harry Kane, Son Heung-Min, Tanguy Ndombele and Serge Aurier.

TIF Thoughts…

Even though it’s still early days in the current league campaign and Spurs have had a mixed bag of results so far, it’s great to hear that Gold has enough confidence in the current squad that they can carry on with their season and be title contenders.

However, taking into consideration that Spurs have not managed to keep a clean sheet in any game they’ve played in so far this season, this could show that they may end up regretting not signing a centre-back as the season progresses.
