Luke Edwards was a special guest on the most recent edition of the Everything is Black and White podcast, and he has been talking about all things Newcastle United with Mark Douglas and Andrew Musgrove.

Who will the Toon play in the next round of the Carabao Cup after they beat Newport County on penalties?

The Daily Telegraph reporter was asked by Musgrove where Henry Mauriss was after Edwards received information in the summer that the American believed he was in pole position to buy the Toon after Amanda Staveley’s Saudi-backed consortium withdrew its offer to buy the club.

Nothing came of Mauriss’ interest, and there was a report that suggested that Mike Ashley had doubted Mauriss’ intentions.

Now, Edwards has provided an update on the American’s attempts to buy Newcastle.

It seems as if despite no one hearing anything of Mauriss’ interest since August, the American still is talking about buying Newcastle and remains interested in the club, though Edwards does not seem convinced.

He said: “Unbelievably, apparently his lawyers are still talking to Ashley’s legal team.

“Everything that we were told in the summer was he was good to go, the money was there and that once he got the green light, it would all be done and he was ready to go and it would be a really quick, easy deal to do.

“He’s still talking, and quite frankly, I am not taking it seriously anymore.

“But, my information is he is still trying, so make of that what you will.

“If he was trying that hard, my personal view is it should be done.”

Can you believe Mauriss is still in talks to buy Newcastle?

No, has to be a joke

TIF Thoughts…

Mauriss supposedly made a bid to buy Newcastle in June, but despite Staveley’s group withdrawing its offer, he is no nearer to taking over from Ashley.

So, it seems very strange that talks are still going on between Mauriss’ and Ashley’s legal teams.

However, Edwards is not convinced, and neither are we because Mauriss has had the chance to buy the Toon but has as yet got nowhere – so we agree with the Daily Telegraph reporter’s view of this situation.
