Liam Kennedy has been speaking on a recent edition of NUFC Matters, and he has been talking about all things Newcastle United with Steve Wraith.

Who will the Toon play in the next round of the Carabao Cup after they beat Newport County on penalties?

The Shields Gazette reporter spoke about many topics, and one issue that he talked about was the proposed takeover of the club by PCP Capital Partners, PIF, and the Reuben brothers that was initially withdrawn in July after the Premier League refused to make a decision on it.

The deal was then presented to the Premier League again behind the scenes, but they would not pass the takeover once again.

This led to Newcastle releasing a statement claiming that the takeover had been rejected by the Premier League, which the league denied.

Mike Ashley then hired two lawyers in an attempt to force it through.

Now Kennedy has provided an update on what stage the takeover is at, although it seems as if he would like to say more but can’t for whatever reason.

He said: “I wish I could tell everybody everything I know, but you can’t do that in these situations.

“Things are ticking away. The legal cogs are turning, and things are happening.

“That doesn’t mean we are all going to get the result that we want at the end, but it’s a positive in itself that everybody is still at the table.

“Everybody [who] is part of the consortium, the legal team [and] other legal bodies [are there].

“Everybody is there, and they’re talking; the Premier League, Newcastle United, and Mike Ashley [and] Justin Barnes.

“Everybody is there, and things are moving; I want to give more, but I can’t, unfortunately.”

TIF Thoughts on Liam Kennedy’s Newcastle takeover update…

Do you think this means anything?

Yes, something big is happening

Yes, something big is happening

No, nothing will happen

No, nothing will happen

Judging by what Kennedy says, everyone involved in this potential takeover, including the consortium, Mike Ashley, and the Premier League, are all still talking, and things are moving.

Of course, it is unclear what these things are, and Kennedy stresses that this might not result in the proposed takeover going through, but it is clear that something is happening.

We think it is frustrating that he cannot say more, but we can only hope that these new talks result in the takeover finally going through for the sake of the Newcastle fans.
