Who will the Toon play in the next round of the Carabao Cup after they beat Newport County on penalties?

On Monday, Ashley released a statement condemning pay-per-view and asked the Premier League to lower the price as he finds the current price of £14.95 ‘not acceptable.’

This led to Greenwood discussing why Ashley said this, and he thinks it might have something to do with the ongoing takeover situation.

Ashley has appointed two lawyers in an attempt to force through the proposed takeover of the Toon by PCP Capital Partners, PIF, and the Reuben brothers.

So, Greenwood thinks that this statement could be about that.

It seems as if Greenwood thinks that Ashley only made this statement on PPV to put some pressure on the Premier League due to the ongoing takeover situation.

He said: “That’s my only concern because it must be something to do with that [the takeover].

“Has he said that just to put the pressure on the Premier League a little bit?”

Greenwood then talked about the potential court case that could happen from this takeover saga and revealed that he hopes it does not go to court and that it is settled before any time in court is required.

He said: “If it does happen, you would like to think for both parties that it’s settled out of court because it will not look good for the Premier League [or the consortium].”

TIF Thoughts on Greenwood’s view on Mike Ashley’s statement…

Considering Ashley is annoyed at the Premier League for not allowing the proposed takeover of the Toon through, then you can see why Greenwood thinks that this statement is an attempt to put pressure on them.

His statement from Monday has now been followed by a statement from two Newcastle fans who are launching a legal challenge of their own, which appears to have the backing of Jamie Reuben and Mehrdad Ghoudoussi, who are involved in the consortium.

So, maybe this was a tactic from Ashley?

Of course, we don’t know, but it is clear that Greenwood thinks that it might have something to do with the ongoing takeover situation.
