John Gibson has been speaking on the latest edition of NUFC Matters with Steve Wraith and Malcolm Macdonald about all things Newcastle United.

Who will the Toon play in the next round of the Carabao Cup after they beat Newport County on penalties?

One of Gibson’s topics was the Toon’s next match against Manchester United, and he suggested how the Toon could beat the Red Devils.

It is fair to say that Gibson doesn’t rate the Red Devils’ defence and believes that there are weaknesses to be exploited if Newcastle get after them.

Gibson criticised the likes of Luke Shaw, David de Gea and Harry Maguire, while he believes that Newcastle can cause the Red Devils problems.

He said: “Defensively, they are very vulnerable.

“Luke Shaw is nowhere near good enough; I don’t think he will play, the new boy [Alex Telles] will play.

“I agree with what you said about Maguire – I think he’s [been] exposed recently for the one pace that he is.

“The goalkeeper is a bag of nerves.

“So, their problems are at the back, so we have got to exploit that.”

Do you think Newcastle can beat MUFC?

TIF Thoughts…

Manchester United were crushed 6-1 against Tottenham Hotspur in their last Premier League match and have only won one of their first three league games.

The Toon, on the other hand, come into this one off the back of a 3-1 home win over Burnley and have won two of their first four league matches.

Gibson might be right to pick out Maguire, Shaw and De Gea as players who the Toon can expose, as all three have a poor average rating from their league performances so far this season.

Maguire was also sent off in his last England game, so is clearly struggling, and with Callum Wilson in good form, you would think he could cause Maguire further problems.

It will be interesting to see if Newcastle can cause Manchester United problems and take a positive result from their match with the Red Devils.
