Journalist and television presenter Pete Graves recently joined Jonathan Greenwood and Sam Mulliner on Newcastle Fans TV to discuss all of the latest Newcastle United news and they spent some time talking about the Toon’s EFL Cup quarter-final clash with Brentford, which is set to take place on 22nd December, during the show.

Graves shared that he thinks the EFL Cup gives the North East club their best chance of winning a trophy this term during his recent appearance on Newcastle Fans TV.

Who will the Toon play in the next round of the Carabao Cup after they beat Newport County on penalties?

However, while looking ahead to December’s quarter-final clash with Brentford, the journalist shared that the prospect of playing against the Championship club’s attacker Ivan Toney, who Newcastle sold to Peterborough United for £351k in the summer of 2018, worries him.

Graves said: “He’s a worry for me. We sold him and he’s got a chance to come up in a cup quarter-final against Newcastle – the club that let him go – and he’s on fire.”

Are you worried about playing against Ivan Toney?

TIF Thoughts on what Graves had to say about Toney…

So far this season, Toney has scored eight goals and provided one assist in 10 appearances for the Bees, who signed him from Peterborough for £5.04m in September. All eight of those goals have come in the Championship, making the 24-year-old ex-Toon attacker the second-highest goalscorer in England’s second-tier at present, prior to the fixtures on 28th October, trailing only Adam Armstrong, who is also a former Newcastle player

With that in mind, it may be fair to say that the £4.05m-rated man is enjoying some positive form at present and it may be understandable why Graves thinks playing against him is a concern for Newcastle.

There is still plenty of time to go until this game is scheduled to take place, so it will be interesting to see how both of these clubs progress between now and then, and whether or not Toney can maintain his impressive form.

However, given that Newcastle are a Premier League side and Brentford are a Championship side, perhaps the North East club should be more than capable of coping with the threat of Toney.
