A lot of Newcastle United fans have flocked to a post from NUFC 360, which contains information on a member involved in a potential takeover of Burnley.

Who will the Toon play in the next round of the Carabao Cup after they beat Newport County on penalties?

The Clarets are currently in the middle takeover talks with US-based firm ALK Capital, however, a £200m bid from Egyptian businessman Mohamed Elkashashy has emerged, with lawyer Chris Farnell also part of the bidding party.

The tweet claims, as per reports in The Athletic, that the EFL blocked Farnell for his involvement in the takeover of Charlton Athletic back in January, and the post – which includes claims the Premier League is ‘ready to sanction’ the deal – asks why this ‘nonchalant attitude’ wasn’t present for the proposed takeover of the Toon.

This post has drawn the attention of many Newcastle fans, who are unsurprised by this from the Premier League.

So, what did these Newcastle fans think of this news on the Burnley takeover?

Do you think this takeover should pass?

No, clearly something dodgy going on

Yes, I see no problem

The Toon’s proposed takeover was initially handed to the league to look at in April, but by the end of July, they had still not reached a decision, and the bid from PCP Capital Partners, PIF and the Reuben brothers was withdrawn.

Amanda Staveley, who headed the bid, then claimed that the likes of Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool were against the takeover, and after it was revealed that the Premier League held private discussions with the Reds, Spurs and the rest of the ‘big six’ over Project Big Picture proposals, perhaps their influence can’t be ruled out.

Certainly, these Toon fans think that this takeover will pass because Burnley will not threaten the big six, and that the Toon’s proposed takeover would have, hence the non-approval from the Premier League.

PIF, which represented 80% of the consortium, owns some serious wealth, and they had ambitions to make a significant investment in Newcastle, but the league refused to pass the deal.

However, the bid is now with the lawyers, and a further legal challenge from two fans has already been launched with Mike Ashley thought to be in support of it.

So, we will have to see whether they are successful and if they do force the takeover through.

For now, though, many Newcastle fans are just expressing their anger with the ‘big six’ and the Premier League.
