Duncan Castles and Ian McGarry discussed the latest Premier League news on the most recent edition of The Transfer Window podcast and during the show, they spent some time talking about the Manchester United manager’s position and the possibility of Massimiliano Allegri being appointed as the club’s next manager.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been the Red Devils’ manager since December 2018 when he became United’s caretaker boss before he was appointed on a permanent basis in March 2019.

How well do you remember the action from the opening weekend of the Premier League? - 1. Who scored the first goal of the season?

However, following his side’s recent 6-1 loss to Tottenham Hotspur – who are managed by the man he replaced at Old Trafford, Jose Mourinho, some reports have emerged raising doubts over the Norwegian’s future.

While discussing managers who could potentially take the reins from Solskjaer at Old Trafford, here is what Castles had to say about Allegri potentially becoming the new Red Devils boss: “I think Max Allegri is a very strong contender for that job, [he] would be interested in the job.

“Of course, Max Allegri should be a contender for the Manchester United job in terms of status and his history in the game. He is interested in coaching in England at some point, but as I understand it, has not had any direct contact from Manchester United during the period in which he’s been available and previous occasions when United have been thinking about changing managers.”

Do you think Allegri would be a good manager for Manchester United?

TIF Thoughts…

If what Castles said during this recent edition of The Transfer Window podcast is true, then it would seem that Allegri would be interested in becoming Manchester United’s manager, but the Red Devils have not shown interest in appointing the Italian as of yet.

It may be fair to say that Allegri has enjoyed plenty of success during his managerial career, winning a total of six Italian Serie A titles – five with Juventus and one with AC Milan. He has also won four Italian Cups and three Italian Super Cups during his coaching career.

So, if Allegri is interested in the Manchester United manager’s job, then perhaps the 53-year-old’s impressive track record will get the attention of the decision-makers at Old Trafford should they feel the need to move on from current boss Solskjaer.
