Speaking recently on the Football Writers Podcast, Jordan Jarrett-Bryan stated his belief that Manchester City should offer Sergio Aguero a new contract.

Since arriving at City from Atletico Madrid in what was a £36 million deal back in 2011, Aguero has gone on to prove himself a fantastic signing for the club, scoring a remarkable 255 goals and providing 73 assists over his 372 appearances for the Citizens.

However, the £37.8 million-rated 32-year-old has featured just twice for Pep Guardiola’s side so far this season, as a knee injury kept him sidelined until October 14, and, with the Argentina international’s contract set to expire next summer, and there being, as yet, no sign of City offering the striker a new deal, it would appear Aguero’s almost decade long spell at the club could be coming to an end.

The forward was one topic of conversation on a recent episode of the Football Writers Podcast, in which Jarrett-Bryan made the case for Guardiola to keep Aguero at the club beyond his current contract, even for just one more year.

He said: “I would give him an extra year, only because I think it [will] be really important for the club to have someone of his stature around the club while they make a transition to [their] next striker.

“Even if [City] only get 10 to 15 league games out of Aguero next season – it’s Sergio Aguero, give him 20 minutes [and] you know that there’s a chance he can score a goal.

“So, although his powers are diminishing, and his contract, if it’s an extension, won’t be cheap, I would still have him around the club just for his seniority and the quality that he does still possess – a 70% fit Sergio Aguero, for me, is still better than most strikers in the Premier League.”

TIF Thoughts on Jordan Jarrett-Bryan’s comments regarding Sergio Aguero…

From Jarrett-Bryan’s comments, it is clear that the journalist is of the belief that Aguero still has much to offer City, and that he would like to see Guardiola award the forward with a new one-year deal, despite the fact he admits the 32-year-old’s talent is diminishing.

However, with a little over half a year remaining on his current deal, and no mention from City as yet, at least publically, that the forward will be given a new deal, it would seem, at present, that Jarrett-Bryan’s advice is not something that City are going to heed.
