Speaking on a recent episode of The Transfer Window podcast, Ian McGarry claimed that former Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino may be waiting to take the Manchester City job.

Taking over at Spurs in May 2014, Pochettino went on lead the club in 293 games, winning 160, drawing 60 and losing 73, with his side scoring 559 goals and conceding 322 times.

Man City fan? We bet you can't get 100% on this Kevin De Bruyne quiz. We'll start you off with an easy one. From which team did Kevin De Bruyne join City?

After his first season in charge saw the north London side finish fifth in the Premier League, the Argentine went on to establish Tottenham as a regular top-four side, finishing third in 2015/16, second in 2016/17, third in 2017/18 and fourth in 2018/19, as well as guiding the club to the final of the Champions League in the 2018/19 season.

However, just a few months after the club’s defeat in the Champions League final, Pochettino found himself out of a job, with Spurs having taken just 14 points from 12 matches in the 2019/20 season prior to his sacking.

And, despite being linked with a number of high profile jobs since his departure from Spurs, the 48-year-old has remained unemployed.

However, speaking on a recent episode of The Transfer Window podcast, McGarry claimed that he had ‘information’ as to where the Argentine may be looking for his next job.

He said: “My information, from speaking to people close to Mauricio Pochettino, is that he’d prefer to go to Manchester City than Manchester United as a project.

“Clearly, they are a club better equipped to give him the opportunity to achieve trophies, which he has yet to do in his managerial career. Whether or not that becomes the case or not, we shall find out, but certainly, with Pep Guardiola in the last year of his contract, that may well become an option for Pochettino – and one perhaps that’s worth waiting for.”

TIF Thoughts…

From McGarry’s comments, it is clear that the journalist is of the belief that Pochettino could well be waiting for the Manchester City job to become available, should Pep Guardiola not be offered an extension to his contract, which is set to expire next summer.

As such, this will certainly be a potential move that we will be keeping a very close eye on over the course of the season.
