Liverpool journalist Ian Doyle has been talking about Reds goalkeeper Alisson Becker and his importance to Jurgen Klopp’s team.
This comes after Doyle recently made an appearance on the Liverpool Echo’s Blood Red Podcast where he discussed a number of subjects on the Merseyside club.
On the subject of Alisson, who has been out on the sidelines with a shoulder injury, and his significance to the squad, Doyle had this to say on the matter.
He said: “I actually think that Liverpool missing Alisson is perhaps more of a blow than missing Van Dijk. I know that Van Dijk is the best defender in the world, but goalkeeper is such a specialist position and it is the last line of defence that with Alisson there, the other players will perhaps feel a little bit more confident.
“The backline, the defence, the whole team seems to have more confidence when Alisson’s in goal, that’s because he is the best goalkeeper in the world in such a specialised position, he’s impossible to replace.”
Liverpool signed the shot-stopper back in the 2018 summer transfer window from Italian club AS Roma in a deal worth a reported fee of £56.25 million. Since then, the Brazilian, who is currently valued at £72 million, has made 92 appearances for Liverpool across all competitions in which he’s managed to keep 45 clean sheets (per Transfermarkt).
As well as Alisson, Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk is also out injured after he suffered a serious knee injury during the Reds’ previous Premier League match against Everton, which will now require surgery.

TIF Thoughts on Ian Doyle’s comments on Alisson…
It’s a shame that Liverpool have both Alisson and Van Dijk out of action at the moment. The fact that Doyle thinks that Liverpool miss Alisson more than they will miss Van Dijk just goes to show just how highly thought of the goalkeeper is at the Merseyside club.
Moving forward, everyone at the club will be hoping to see the duo back out on the pitch as soon as possible.
