Fabrizio Romano recently joined George Elek to discuss all of the latest football transfer news and they spent some time talking about the possibility of Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe joining Liverpool in a future transfer window.

Anfield has been touted as a potential destination for Mbappe, with it having been reported that the Frenchman is eyeing a departure from Le Parc des Princes next summer.

First up in this Steven Gerrard quiz, how old is the former Liverpool man?

After Elek asked Romano if there is “any truth” in the rumours that Mbappe is a long-term target for the Reds during this recent YouTube video, here is what the Italian journalist had to say about the possibility of that transfer happening: “I have to be honest, in this moment, we are talking about something that is not really happening.

“Obviously, clubs like Liverpool, like Manchester City, and, same, Real Madrid, can think [of] players like Mbappe but right now, there has been no contact to get Mbappe to Liverpool for next summer.

“We have to wait some weeks to understand the real situation but Liverpool are not working to get Mbappe next summer also because if you talk with the president of Paris Saint-Germain, Nasser al-Khelaifi, about Mbappe, he’s ready to fight.

“It will be a war to get Mbappe next summer, in my opinion. Nasser al-Khelaifi will try to keep him, 100%.”

TIF Thoughts…

Judging by what Romano had to say, it seems as though PSG are determined to keep hold of Mbappe, which is understandable when you consider that the 21-year-old has scored a staggering 91 goals and provided 54 assists in 126 appearances for the club.

Additionally, as per Transfermarkt, the FIFA World Cup winner is currently valued at a whopping £162m.

With that in mind, we feel it will likely take a colossal transfer fee to prise Mbappe from PSG next year, however, next summer, he will have just one year remaining on his current deal with PSG, as per Transfermarkt.

So, if the Ligue 1 side is unable to tie him down to a long-term deal before then, perhaps they will opt to cash in on him in order to avoid losing the highly-valued attacker for free the following year.

In which case, perhaps the Reds may be in the running for his signature, considering the success they have enjoyed in recent seasons, with the Merseyside club winning the 2018/19 UEFA Champions League and the 2019/20 Premier League.
