Niall McCaughan, Jim Salveson and Matt Cunningham discussed all of the latest Premier League transfer news on a recent edition of the Football Social Daily podcast and they spent some time talking about the possibility of Leeds United making a move for Norwich City midfielder Todd Cantwell during the show.
Leeds have been linked with Cantwell of late, with it having been reported back in September that the Yorkshire-based club tabled a £15m bid for the 22-year-old.
At present, Cantwell is still a Norwich City player and some recent reports have claimed that this transfer is ‘looking unlikely,’ with the current domestic transfer window set to shut on Friday, as the Canaries have set a £20m price tag for the midfielder, with it also having been reported that Leeds are looking at an alternative to Cantwell in the form of Derby County’s Louie Sibley.
However, while discussing the possibility of Leeds making a move for Cantwell during this recent edition of the Football Social Daily podcast, Cunningham shared that he thinks signing Cantwell would be a good move for Marcelo Bielsa’s side, saying: “I love the idea of the transfer, I think it works perfectly and the rumoured fee that I heard – £20m – [is] an absolute bargain in the current market.
“The way Marcelo Bielsa sets his team up, the way Leeds play football, it’s enjoyable to watch, it seems like a perfect setup for a young English forward who tries to be creative, tries to take risks and maybe lose the ball but also when it comes off, it looks fantastic.
“It seems like the perfect place for him to go. Similarly to when young players go over to Dortmund in Germany, it feels very similar to that, Leeds, to me at the moment.
“It makes a lot of sense, he’s a good player, I think he’d be a great asset for Leeds and another good option, it’s a great place for him to go on and really progress and push on from the good season he had last year as well.”

As can be seen in what Cunningham had to say, it certainly seems as though he thinks this transfer would suit all parties, with the podcaster even stating that he thinks Norwich’s alleged £20m asking price would be a bargain for Cantwell.
It will be interesting to see if the decision-makers at Leeds share a similar view and opt to sign the 22-year-old before Friday’s deadline or if the club feels that Cantwell is not worth what Norwich are said to be asking for him and turn their attention to alternative targets.
