Who did Leeds sign from a La Liga side in September?

During the episode, Phillips was asked if there was ever a point in his Leeds career where he was close to leaving Elland Road. In response, this is what the midfielder had to say.

He said: “I think it was under Steve Evans, I wasn’t really getting any games so I made up my mind that I wanted to go out on loan, wherever it was. I wanted to go on loan and then Garry Monk came in and I think I played 36 times that season, so it’s not just the fact that you’re not playing games, it’s just the fact that if a manager likes you, then he won’t let you go.

“I think I’ve had a lot of occasions where every manager that has come in has taken to me and wanted to play me in games and bar Steve Evans, I think I’ve played under every manager that we’ve had.”

After working his way through the youth system at the club, Phillips made his senior debut for Leeds back in April 2015. Since then, the 24-year-old has gone on to make a total of 186 appearances for the Elland Road outfit in which he has managed to score 12 goals and provide 11 assists along the way (per Transfermarkt).

So far this season, Phillips has had a solid start to his 2020/21 Premier League campaign with WhoScored giving him a season rating of 6.94/10 for his performances in the five league appearances he’s made for Leeds.
