Many Celtic fans have been discussing an update from the Scottish FA that recently emerged on social media.
The official Twitter account of the Scottish FA recently relayed UEFA’s announcement that Scotland will now have five representatives in UEFA club competitions from next season onwards. This is an increase from the four spots that they have had in the previous years.
The tweet also carried a link to an article that had more information about this change and also caught the attention of many Celtic supporters.

The top two Scottish clubs will now be in the qualifying rounds of the UEFA Champions League, with other places available in the qualifying rounds of the UEFA Europa League and the UEFA Europa Conference League, which commences in the 2021/22 season.
Celtic are playing in the Europa League this season, after losing to Ferencvaros in the qualifying stages of the Champions League. Some other Celtic fans also talked about this update from the Scottish FA.
Mainly down to one club, with the other Glasgow team helping more recently. We really need to see more clubs getting through the qualifying rounds on a regular basis ??????? https://t.co/rJxbn8dSid

2 UCL places next season? Didn’t think that was starting till 2022/23, can’t see any Scottish team getting through the league route of UCL though, those qualifiers are absolutely terrifying https://t.co/J3wkZ0aaB7

Some Celtic fans are pleased about this update and feel that the Hoops’ performance in European competitions is one reason why Scottish clubs are getting an extra spot.
Having said that, the Hoops have failed to reach the group stages of the UEFA Champions League on three consecutive occasions now and it shows that they haven’t been prolific in Europe. They got knocked out of the UEFA Europa League in the round of 32 by Copenhagen last season and they are third in their current Europa League group.
So their European form hasn’t exactly been impressive. While this development may be a positive for Scottish football, Celtic fans can only hope that the Hoops improve their form in continental competition soon.
