Speaking recently on the Here We Go podcast, Fabrizio Romano claimed that Arsenal are interested in Red Bull Salzburg midfielder, Dominik Szoboszlai.

Since joining Salzburg from FC Liefering back in January 2018, Szoboszlai has gone on to feature 67 times for the club, scoring 20 goals and providing 27 assists along the way.

In what month did Mikel Arteta take over as the Arsenal boss?

Last season, the £22.5 million-rated 19-year-old highly impressed over his 27 appearances in the Austrian Bundesliga, scoring nine goals and providing 14 assists.

In addition to this, the Hungary international scored a further two goals and provided two assists over his six appearances in the OFB-Cup, bagged one goal and one assist over his five appearances in the Champions League and also provided one assist in his two appearances in the Europa League, taking his total to 12 goals and 18 assists over 40 appearances in all competitions.

Seemingly as a result of his impressive returns, interest is said to be high in the left-midfielder, with Napoli and RB Leipzig both reported to be keen on a move for Szoboszlai.

And, speaking on a recent episode of the Here We Go podcast, Romano claimed that Arsenal are also considering making a move for the 19-year-old, with the journalist stating that the north London side are scouting the midfielder ahead of a potential move in January or next summer.

He said: “Arsenal are scouting and monitoring the situation of Dominik Szoboszlai of Salzburg. He was close to joining AC Milan, he’s [an] offensive midfielder, I would say he’s a bit like [Houssem] Aouar, he’s a bit different; he’s [a] more technical player, [a more] offensive player, but they are scouting him.

“He’s [on their] list, he’s not in the first position, but he’s [on their] list. So, pay attention to the situation, I don’t know if it [will be] for January or if it will be for next summer, but Szoboszlai is on the list for Arsenal.

“As I said, he is not [in the] first position [on their shortlist], because first position is for Aouar for these kinds of players, but for the future, they are scouting him.”

TIF Thoughts…

From Romano’s comments, it is clear that the journalist is of the belief that Arsenal are indeed interested in the signing of Szoboszlai, and, although the club would, according to Romano, prefer to sign Aouar, he does seem to think that Arsenal could make a move for the 19-year-old either in the January transfer window or next summer.

Interestingly, it was reported that the youngster was available for £26 million in the transfer window just gone.

As such, this is certainly a potential deal we will be keeping an eye on over the coming months.
