Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano spent some time talking about the latest with regard to Arsenal’s pursuit of Atletico Madrid midfielder Thomas Partey during the most recent edition of his Here We Go podcast.

Partey has been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium throughout the current transfer window, however, the player’s release clause has reportedly been a stumbling block for this potential deal.

In what month did Mikel Arteta take over as the Arsenal boss?

During this recent edition of the Here We Go podcast, Romano discussed the current stance of the player with regard to a potential departure from Atletico and he explained that this is another reason why it may be unlikely that the 27-year-old will move to the north London club during this transfer window.

Romano said: “Thomas is not pushing to leave the club. [Atletico Madrid] want to win La Liga, they have a fantastic team this season, also with Luis Suarez, they are convinced they can do something important also in the Champions League.

“So, in this moment, [Partey] is not pushing to leave the club and that’s why [the] Atletico Madrid board are really convinced that the player will stay.

“Now it’s up to Arsenal because there is a release clause, obviously, but in this moment, if you talk with Atletico Madrid, they are convinced that the player will stay.

“So, pay attention because it’s not sure that Thomas is going to leave the club.”

TIF Thoughts…

Judging by Romano’s comments on this potential transfer, it seems that even if Arsenal do meet the player’s release clause, it is not a sure thing that the Ghana international will actually want to swap the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium for the Emirates.

So, it may be that the Gunners have to line up a target alternative to Partey prior to Monday’s deadline as, judging from what Romano had to say, the signing of the Atletico midfielder seems doubtful.
