Charles Watts, the Arsenal correspondent for Goal, has been discussing the situation regarding Thomas Partey during a recent video on his YouTube channel.

The North London club has been linked with a move for the Atletico Madrid midfielder but up until this point, an agreement has not been reached between the two clubs for the 27-year-old.

Partey has a minimum fee release clause of €50m (£45.3m) and if the Gunners were to trigger that, they would be free to discuss a move with the player.

In what month did Mikel Arteta take over as the Arsenal boss?

When discussing the transfer link, Watts aired his belief that if the release clause was to be offered deadline day, from there on, the potential transfer of Partey to the Emirates Stadium could be “wrapped up pretty quickly”, here is what he had to say:

“If that release clause is triggered, then the move will be wrapped up pretty quickly, because Thomas Partey is very keen on a move to Arsenal; personal terms won’t be an issue.

“It’s just a case of whether Arsenal will pay that release clause, which so far, all summer long, they haven’t.”

TIF Thoughts…

The £36m-rated Ghanaian made 35 appearances for Diego Simeone’s side last season and according to WhoScored.com, his average performance rating was an impressive 7.08/10.

His strengths are said to include his ability to intercept balls, tackle, dribble and shoot from distance.

Taking the above into consideration, in our view, he would be a good addition to Mikel Arteta’s side, however, with the transfer deadline fast approaching, if Arsenal are looking to add the player to their squad, they will have to get a move on.
