Many Celtic fans have been discussing the latest comments that Gary Breen has recently made about the club’s new signing Shane Duffy.

Breen was recently talking to Off The Ball (via Daily Record) and he talked about Duffy’s recent move to Parkhead. Breen believes that while the defender is a ‘brilliant’ signing for Celtic and he could become a club legend there, the quality of the opposition in Scotland is a ‘concern’.

Which player played the highest number of minutes in all competitions for Celtic in the 2019/20 season?

Breen believes that Duffy can pick up some ‘bad habits’ in Scotland because he won’t be facing ‘quality centre- forwards’.

The Daily Record relayed a tweet about Breen’s comments recently. It caught the attention of many Celtic fans and they made their feelings clear about these comments.

Can Duffy become a Celtic legend?

Duffy is known to be a Celtic fan and he was ‘keen’ to make a Parkhead switch this summer. He has now joined the club on loan from Brighton and Hove Albion and scored on his debut against Ross County recently, helping Celtic pick up a 5-0 win.

Some other Celtic fans also mocked Breen and his comments about Duffy and Scottish football.

Some of these Celtic fans don’t believe that Breen’s comments are relevant in this case and they are mocking him for what he had to say.

The Athletic have stated that Duffy is ’emotionally invested in this season’ for the Hoops and his decision to join Celtic was ‘partly motivated’ by his urge to do his dad proud as he passed away three months ago. The article also claimed that his signing seems to be carrying tangible and intangible value as he can boost the morale at the club and has the ability to score from headers as well.

All of this suggests that Duffy’s decision to join Celtic might have been an emotional one. The club’s fans can only hope that he helps Celtic win their tenth Premiership title in a row and he doesn’t pick up the ‘bad habits’ that Breen points towards.
