BBC Radio Newcastle’s Nick Barnes joined Stephen Goldsmith and Gareth Barker on the latest edition of the Wise Men Say podcast to discuss all things Sunderland and the panel spent some time discussing the current status of the Sunderland takeover during the show.

As per The Guardian, Sunderland responded to ‘increasing disgruntlement’ among the club’s fanbase at the beginning of this year when they confirmed that Stewart Donald ‘is actively attempting to sell the League One club’ and the owner himself shared that he is “desperately trying” to sell the club back in July.

Last weekend, Barnes provided an update on the current status of the Sunderland takeover on BBC Radio Newcastle (via Mark Donnelly), as he shared that talks over the sale of the club are ‘progressing well.’

As per Sunderland journalist Donnelly, Barnes also shared that there are ‘hopes’ that ‘the sale can be completed by the end of the month.’

Barnes expanded on this update on the takeover and discussed Donald’s current feelings on his place at the club during this recent edition of the Wise Men Say podcast, saying: “[Donald]’s fully aware that people don’t want him here.

“The majority, I think it’s without question now, want him to go and I know he feels he is unwelcome.

“I honestly, sincerely believe he will be gone in the next month/two months. I really don’t think he’s in any position to stay at this football club.

“There was talk that someone said that it may be just a reallocation of shares, I don’t think it will be. I think it will be a full-bodied sale. I don’t think, in any shape or form, Stewart Donald will be at the football club.”

Do you think that Sunderland will have new ownership by the end of this month?

TIF Thoughts…

So, as can be seen in what Barnes had to say, it’s clear that he doesn’t believe Donald will remain at the Stadium of Light for much longer and he seems to believe that a full takeover of the club is not far off reaching completion.

With Donald confirming that he is “desperately trying to get out” of the club in July, hopefully, for the Black Cats, Barnes is right and new ownership with more of an interest in the club and its future will arrive at Sunderland soon.
