We Are West Ham podcast host Will Pugh has recently made a claim regarding West Ham United’s transfer link with Burnley’s James Tarkowski.
On Tuesday, it was reported by Sky Sports that the Irons had a bid ‘worth up to £30m’ for the former Oldham Athletic defender rejected by the Clarets.
The bid to sign the 27-year-old Englishman was supposedly an offer of £20m plus £10m in add-ons or £23m upfront.
Earlier in the week, it had been claimed in a report by the BBC that David Moyes’ outfit had bid £27m for the centre-back and they were awaiting a response.
So, in the latest episode of the We Are West Ham Podcast, Pugh shared what he knew regarding the transfer link with Tarkowski.
He said: “James Tarkowski from Burnley seems to have been the loudest rumour that we’ve heard this week – a £27m bid, I believe.
“Now, I spoke to someone on Saturday, bearing in mind obviously, a lot can change. On Saturday, despite rumours to the contrary that an offer had been made, I was told by someone who would know that there had been no offer, but a serious conversation was taking place.
“So, that was on Saturday; I’m fairly confident with that source of information.
“He’s in his late 20s, Tarkowski, he’s a good player. He was disappointed, I understand, to not be included in Gareth Southgate’s latest England squad.”
TIF Thoughts…
As can be seen in what the podcast host had to say, on Saturday there had been no bid for Tarkowski, however, something may have changed since then.
Would you be happy if West Ham signed James Tarkowski for around £35m?
No, he's not worth it
Yes, he's a good player
Either way, with Football Insider having claimed that Burnley have valued Tarkowski at £35m, it will be interesting to see if the Hammers do stump up the cash.
It is also stated in Football Insider’s report that the English defender is ‘keen’ on the move to the London Stadium as he sees West Ham as a ‘more ambitious club’.
So, that could potentially play a factor in a move if that report is correct.
