Danny Graham appeared on the latest edition of the SAFC Unfiltered podcast to discuss his decision to re-join Sunderland.

Graham joined Sunderland on a free transfer at the beginning of this week. This will be the striker’s second spell at the Stadium of Light and it may be fair to say that his first stint as a Sunderland player didn’t go particularly well, as he managed to score just one goal in 42 appearances for the North East club.

During his recent appearance on the SAFC Unfiltered podcast, Graham addressed his decision to return to the club, saying: “It was never about the money side of it or anything like that, it was just making sure I was making the right decision coming back because it was a big decision to come back. I had a feeling some fans mightn’t have been happy and stuff like that.

“It was a lot to take in, there was a lot of communication, but I’m absolutely over the moon to have come back.”

Judging by these comments, it’s clear that Graham did take some time to think this move through due to his poor first spell at the club and later on in this podcast, he went on to discuss how his previous spell at Sunderland impacted his decision to rejoin the club, saying: “I feel as though I owe the club something. I felt as though it was the right time for me to come back and try and get this club get out of League One.”

TIF Thoughts…

As can be seen in what the forward had to say, it seems as though Graham is determined to leave a better impression at the Stadium of Light this time around, following his disappointing first stint at the club.

The 35-year-old has gotten his second spell on Wearside off to a positive start, as he scored in his first appearance for the Black Cats since re-joining the club earlier this week, helping his side to earn an 8-1 win over Aston Villa’s U23s in the EFL Trophy, so hopefully, for the Black Cats and for Graham, he can build on this positive start to life back at Sunderland.
