Pundit Tam McManus has recently made a claim about Odsonne Edouard and his situation at Celtic.

McManus was a guest on the latest episode of PLZ Soccer’s The Football Show. The panel discussed multiple issues involving Scottish football and one player that they focused on was Edouard. They discussed Neil Lennon’s comments about Edouard as the Celtic manager had confirmed that the Frenchman was honest enough to tell him that he didn’t feel fit enough to start against Livingston. McManus believes that this is ‘nonsense’ and he can’t understand how the striker was tired.

Which player played the highest number of minutes in all competitions for Celtic in the 2019/20 season?

Lennon confirmed that there have been no bids for Edouard and also said that there is no confirmed interest in him. The Celtic boss also said that Edouard isn’t causing any problems behind the scenes.

When talking about Lennon’s comments and Edouard’s situation, McManus said: “It is getting eerily similar to when [Moussa] Dembele left, there’s been a lot of talk about Edouard. I don’t understand how he can be tired, I don’t understand it. He’s been out injured, he went away and played for France Under-21s. He’s come back. I don’t understand how he can be tired.

“Listen, with the lockdown, we’ve not played a game for months and months and months. We’re in the beginning of the season. I think that is absolutely nonsense. If I ever said to a manager – ‘I don’t want to play, I’m tired’, I think he’d have had me out of the door.”

TIF Thoughts…

While Edouard was on the bench for Celtic against Livingston, he has been in good form for the Bhoys this season. He has found the back of the net five times in six appearances in all competitions. In the Premiership, he has scored four goals in five games (as per Transfermarkt).

He has been the club’s third-best player in the Premiership campaign, having picked up a rating of 7.65 for his performances in the league. It shows how much importance he carries for Celtic and because of that, Celtic fans can only hope that fitness issues were behind his absence on Saturday. Because clubs have been linked with a move for the Frenchman and considering his numbers, Edouard isn’t a player that Celtic would want to lose.
