Pundit Paul John Dykes has recently been talking about Jack Hendry and he believes that his future doesn’t lie at Parkhead.

Dykes was hosting the latest episode of the ‘A Celtic State of Mind’ podcast and the panel discussed multiple issues involving the Bhoys. Dykes talked about the situation of Hendry and gave his opinion about the defender. He doesn’t think that his future lies at Parkhead.

Which player played the highest number of minutes in all competitions for Celtic in the 2019/20 season?

Hendry is currently on loan at Belgian club KV Oostende and he had joined the club on a temporary basis earlier this summer. He had spent the second half of last season on loan at Australian club Melbourne City (as per Transfermarkt).

Dykes talked about the defender and wished him well for his future, but he doesn’t believe that his future lies at Celtic.

Is Jack Hendry good enough for Celtic?

He said: “You know, I’m not against picking up young Scottish players from the Scottish leagues. You can see how players can develop in Scotland – Ryan Christie being a prime example.

“To pick him [Hendry] up, performing well for Dundee – famously the scouting reports were ‘Beckenbauer-esque’ – and it just didn’t work out for the boy. What I didn’t like to see was the backlash of that, because I think there [were] a few occasions where he’s maybe bitten back online on Twitter and things like that.

“These things do get to some players and I do wish Jack all the best. I know that things are better for him, he’s had a terrible injury, hasn’t he? I hope the guy does well and I hope he progresses, but I don’t think it will be at Celtic Park.”

TIF Thoughts…

During his time at Melbourne City, Hendry made a couple of A-League appearances for the club but his progress was derailed by a knee injury. In the Jupiler Pro League this season for Oostende, he has made a couple of appearances so far.

At Celtic, he made just a single appearance last season and that appearance came in the League Cup. It shows that perhaps Neil Lennon doesn’t trust him too much as a player and that might be the reason why Hendry was loaned out earlier this summer.

If he still wants to play for Celtic in the future though, performing well in the current loan spell could help him a lot in that regard.
