Football journalist Fabrizio Romano has been sharing the latest details around Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Dele Alli and his current situation at the north London club.

This comes after Romano recently co-hosted an episode of his transfer-themed Here We Go podcast, where he spoke about all the latest transfer news topics concerning a variety of clubs at the moment.

After being recently linked with a move away from Tottenham, with Inter and Paris Saint-Germain reportedly interested in signing the Englishman, this is what Romano had to say on the matter.

He said: “In this moment, what we can say is that it’s more about [the] Tottenham board who are looking for something for Dele Alli, because they want to sign a new striker and more, [rather] than [Jose] Mourinho, because Mourinho would like to keep Dele Alli.”

Spurs signed Alli in February 2015 from MK Dons for a fee of £5.97 million. Overall, the 24-year-old has made 223 appearances for Tottenham, in which he has scored 62 goals and provided 55 assists along the way (per Transfermarkt).

The 2020/21 season has not gone well for Alli so far, with the midfielder only playing 45 minutes of action for Spurs in the first half of their 1-0 Premier League defeat to Everton.

Since then, Alli was left out of the squad for Spurs’ Europa League qualifying match against Lokomotiv Plovdiv, as well as their recent Premier League victory against Southampton.

 TIF Thoughts…

It seems strange that Romano thinks Mourinho wants to keep Alli at the club despite the Portuguese boss not involving him in either of Spurs’ previous two games.

It’ll be interesting to see if the Tottenham board manage to work out a deal that would see Alli leave the club and if that could provide them with the finances to secure the transfer targets they are said to be looking for.
