Podcaster Louis McCaffrey has recently made a claim about the situation of Neil Lennon and his future at Celtic Park.

McCaffrey was recently hosting the latest episode of the Cynic Weekly podcast and the panel discussed many issues involving the Hoops. McCaffrey talked about Lennon and gave his opinion about the Celtic manager’s future at Parkhead.

Starting with an easy one - which club did Celtic sign Moussa Dembele from?

Celtic have already been knocked out of the qualifying stages of the UEFA Champions League, following a 2-1 loss to Ferencvaros in the second qualifying round of the competition. In the Premiership, Celtic are third in the table and they had failed to beat Kilmarnock earlier in the season.

McCaffrey believes that if Celtic end up getting another bad result in a big game, Lennon’s position could be in jeopardy.

Is Neil Lennon's position as Celtic manager under threat?

Yes

When talking about how he reacted to the club’s loss to Ferencvaros, McCaffrey discussed Lennon’s future. He said: “I wanted a lot of things happening. I was willing to go to Celtic Park and protest, to be honest with you. I’ve calmed down a wee bit. I’m not calling for Lennon to be sacked right now, but I’m very, very nervous. I think if [we have] one more really bad result in a big game, I think it could be curtains for him.”

TIF Thoughts…

This is Lennon’s second stint at Parkhead as the manager, as he was appointed as the club’s caretaker boss in February 2019 but he was later appointed as the permanent manager in May 2019. His first stint as the Celtic manager ended in the summer of 2014.

As the Hoops boss, Lennon has won as many as four Premiership titles at Parkhead. He has also helped the club win two Scottish Cup titles (as per Transfermarkt).

He has already proved that he’s good enough to be a manager who can help Celtic win trophies. So perhaps, he has enough credit in his bag to stay at Celtic beyond this season. There are a lot of games yet to be played in the season and Celtic can still perform well in the league and in the Europa League. So Celtic fans might have to be patient right now.
